TALYBONT-on-Usk was an early morning destination for walkers taking part in The Big Walk, an initiative in which teams journey around the UK to shine a light on communities.
Team Wales, including Jude Boutle from Llandrindod Wells, called in at Henderson Hall, the community hub for the village.
The team were greeted with hot bacon butties to set them up for a long day’s walk.
Henderson Hall and the playground were refurbished with a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, made possible by players of the National Lottery.
According to locals, the project has made a real difference to the village. The bike hub with purpose-built bike-washing and changing facilities has proved so popular that it has attracted a specialist cycle hire and repair shop to move in nearby.
Jude, who is the economic development champion for Llandrindod, was overwhelmed by the welcome in Talybont. She said: “The facilities in Talybont are state of the art and have galvanised the local community as well as helped attract bike enthusiasts to wonders of the Brecon Beacons. I’m so impressed by the bike washing facilities and the showers. When I get home to Llandod, I’ll be putting my own bike on the roof rack and heading down to Talybont….after my legs have recovered from all the walking ofcourse!”
